Arzenal

Established on the island of Taiwan, Arzenal is an island-sized super-prison. Following the greatly reduced population on Earth and the subsequent proliferation of the BETA menace in Asia, the vast majority of the island has been converted into a strange fusion of military base and prison for the Earth Sphere's convicts. People who are successfully tried for anything stronger than a petty crime is sent to Arzenal to serve their sentence.

It is the home of the Para-Mail pilots; largely the more dangerous convicts, people with a death wish, or the odd non-convict volunteer. The prison has a weird culture: anything can be bought except for one's freedom. Anything from hair ribbons to mecha-grade armaments can be purchased and used with near impunity. For the most part Arzenal functions like a very odd micro-nation. The overarching goal is the elimination of the BETA and subjugation of the DRAGONs that have recently appeared through unknown means from unknown places. A standing reward has been offered to all the prisoners upon their incarceration here: once the BETA and DRAGONs have been eliminated as a threat, everyone currently incarcerated will receive a full pardon.

The prison obviously has guards and escape attempts are punished with publicly broadcast beatings up to and often including death. However, there are rules in Arzenal like there are everywhere else. The island also serves as a staging point for any forces that wish to strike out at the Asian BETA Hives, so there is also a steady stream of outside personnel flowing into and out of Arzenal.

There is a standard uniform style among the prisoners though keeping in the spirit of the prison's unique culture this is customizable to a degree. The uniform must be worn in military operations areas or in areas where non-prisoners are during their stay on the island. In areas that do not meet these standards non-uniform clothing is permitted.

Norma

The Norma are a sub-species of humans that while nearly genetically identical to baseline have a specific genetic quirk that was only discovered upon the discovery of magic: they are living anti-magic. Any contact with a Norma instantly and harmlessly (to the Norma) destroys the directing forces of spells, magitech, and effectively depowers anything using such forces as a power source. The specific cause of the quirk is currently unknown as is how much of the population has it. There does not at this time appear to be a link between parent's genetics and any likelihood of the child being a Norma.

What is known is that Arzenal has somehow acquired the highest known concentration of Normas in the Earth Sphere; comprising approximately 23% of the prison's population, mainly among the prisoners. Norma cannot receive any sort of magical healing or assistance so the ones that suffer injuries must rely on mundane medical techniques; resulting in a surprising number of prosthetics and full cybernetics amongst their ranks.

Faction Name: Arzenal
Government: Prison Colony / Penal Legion
Capital: New Taipei City
Territories: Island of Taiwan
Population: Seven million plus
Goals:
  • The Eradication of the BETA from Earth, starting with the Asia area
  • The subjugation of the DRAGON threat
  • Survival
  • Freedom from their imprisonment or having to watch over prisoners

History:

Established on the island of Taiwan, Arzenal is an island-sized super-prison. Following the greatly reduced population on Earth and the subsequent proliferation of the BETA menace in Asia, the vast majority of the island has been converted into a strange fusion of military base and prison for the Earth Sphere's convicts. People who are successfully tried for anything stronger than a petty crime is sent to Arzenal to serve their sentence.

There is no age restriction to incarceration into Arzenal. Many undesirable elements from around the world are in the prison under dubious legal proceedings, but few if any of these convictions have ever been overturned. The vast majority of individuals incarcerated hae however earned their "citizenship" of the island "nation". The Overseers are the established guard contingent and ultimately the nominal law enforcement of the island; though their primary duties are to organize the penal forces and prevent escape attempts rather than truly enforce order upon the island.

The prisoners have actually taken over largely ruling themselves, and have done a surprisingly good job at keeping relative peace among themselves since Arzenal's inception. There is a strong "the strong rule the weak" mentality in this society, but strength can be a fluid concept when money or favors are exchanged or cashed in. Those who actually sortie to fight outside Arzenal's borders are given great respect, and it is considered grave disrespect to speak ill of the dead unless they have personally harmed you before they died. The Overseers have more than once had to cut down bodies of those who spoke such ills from nearby trees if only for sanitary reasons.

Look and feel:

Notable Individuals:

1624853952331.jpg

Name: Risa Halligan, Arzenal's Steel Mistress
Occupation: Head Overseer of Arzenal
Personality:
Risa is the Head Overseer of Arzenal. It is her will that dictates the state of the prison island. It is her permission that lets said prisoners fight and die for Humanity. She dictates who gets how much fuel per sortie; she who raises talent to glory and she who crushes it to death in the street at the end of metal batons. A hard and calculating woman Risa revels in her ability to control the fates of millions of people with the scrawl of a pen, and relishes even more the fact that she rarely has to use it since no one on the island is fool enough to challenge her. Arzenal's Steel Mistress lives up to her name: it takes something of great and passionate heat to bend her once she's decided something.

Quirks:
  • Has a caffeine addiction, and can be often found consuming various configurations of coffee with the airs of a sommelier
  • Is rumored to be bisexual (leaning female) but has not been seen in public with anyone
  • Is a cat person, and has been known to fairly allow supplicants to voice their case if presenting a high-quality article of cat-related nature

1626290060963.jpg

Name: Visorface
Occupation: Head Merchant of Arzenal's Market
Personality:
The seeming heart of Arzenal's bustling Market Visorface is always ready to make a deal, provided the other party has sufficient payment at hand. Visorface is in contract with the Overseers to organize and distribute the supplies that come in from the outside world so they can get to where they need to go. It is Visorface's silent gesturing that orchestrates the flow of goods and materials that keep Arzenal at combat readiness and the prisoners sedated with their various vices both innocent and a lot of things that are straight-up illegal in the outside world. If Visorface can't get it for you, it likely doesn't exist... Unless you pay him enough to make it exist.

Quirks:
  • Seemingly mute.
  • Prefers the smell of jasmine flowers, and can be tracked by their scent as he surrounds himself with them constantly
  • Has the uncanny ability to pull desired objects seemingly out of thin air or from behind convenient curtains. This has led many to believe he is capable of magic, though he has shown no visible fear or disgust towards the population of Normas on Arzenal.

Mass Production Machines:

Para-Mail Info

The AW-CBR115 Glaive is the base platform of the Para-Mail. Known derogatorily as the "No-Makeup", this machine is an ultra-light flight capable model armed with a ballistic rifle equipped with an underslung grenade launcher and special strong-effect freeze bullet firing assemblies in the forearms. This machine is used by new recruits and those who cannot afford to purchase upgrades and modifications from the market in Arzenal.

The four recognized variants are the Arquebus (a long-range combat loadout), a version of the Glaive equipped with a melee weapon in addition to standard armaments, the Hauser (a heavy weapons loadout), and the Razor (a modification of the Para-Mail that sacrifices most of it's meager armor protection and heavy weapons for sheer speed and agility). Each of these variants has 'wiggle room' in the exact nature of the loadout, so between the variance in the exact weapons used and personal modifications most Para-Mails quickly become semi-unique machines that can be recognized individually at a glance.

Other Information:

Norma are a regular sight on Arzenal, though pretty rare elsewhere.

Name: Gideon Clements
Age: 55 (Physical 25, cryogenically suspended for 30 years)
Gender: Male
Height: 5'10'
Weight: 170 lbs.
Eye Color: Hunter Green
Hair Color: Mauve
Ethnicity: Martian
Appearance:

Gideon is a figure of imposing appearance despite not being particularly strongly-built. What immediately draws the attention of anyone who sees him is the plates and cables that seem to wreath his neck and lower face. To most people his bare body would be a half-nightmare of metal cybernetics and pale flesh, but it pales in comparison to the strength in his deeply green eyes. They are the eyes of a man who has lived a lifetime a heartbeat and is hungry for more.

Think light Warhammer 40K techpriest vibes

Other Information:
  • Is the successful prototype of the Lynx pilots
  • Has numerous highly-visible cybernetics from both previous ailments/injuries and the required Lynx neural connection ports
  • Operates under the callsign "Silica"

Biography:

Gideon Clements was born on Mars in an underground city that has since faded into history. He grew up in the poor area of his city and merely lucked into being taken in by Metalssiah; a Raven. Gideon grew up learning the trade of Armored Core mercenary work, and when Metalssiah met his end at the hands of an ambushing trio of Ravens for a transgression or revenge Gideon had no idea about he ended up inheriting the remaining resources of his erstwhile master. He managed to eke out a living as a low-ranked Raven until he could hunt down the killers of his master one by one and revenge the man he owed so much to.

His battles ravaged his flesh leading to his now-famous cybernetics, and the path of destruction he carved in the pursuit caught the eye of the Mirage corporation. Seeing the drive of the man and citing the fact he already had a great amount of metal instead of flesh, they came forward to him with an offer: become a test subject for the newly-perfected Lynx project and they would fund his remaining hunt to serve as test data. Gideon agreed to the conditions and with his newly-acquired abilities and backing swiftly hunted down and destroyed the sources of his revenge. He then stuck with them through a number of years and was considered the go-to for their intercompany proxy wars with the other corporations on Mars.

When the bombs were slated to fall he was deemed a valuable asset and was sent into orbit in cryogenic slumber to await linkup with the exodus from the Red Planet. Something went wrong; whether by accident or by vengeful design by someone he'd wronged he had no idea. The craft he'd been in was set adrift for years as it's occupant faded from thought as just another casualty of the end of Mars. Thirty years passed before the vessel he and his machine were trapped in drifted into range of the orbital home of the League of Ruling Companies. The missing link had been found, and was eager to get back to the battlefield.

Mobile Weapon: C-02 Uranus MAVORS

Affiliation: Independent (League ties)

Combat Style: Blindside
Strengths:
Gideon is biomechnically linked into his Armored Core while piloting, giving him a reaction speed that can only be matched by his 'progeny' the newer Lynx. He uses this reaction time to blast about the battlefield like a speeding bullet to smash into an opponent's blindspots with his generation's version of the famed Karasawa energy rifle and dual grenade launchers.
Weaknesses:
In his mad rush to bring down an opponent, he can get tunnel vision about the battlefield around him due to the nature of the AMS system of Mavors. This is a trait that has caused him grief before his Lynx surgery; leading to the majority of his cybernetics.

Description:
MAVORS.png
History:

AC Mavors is a very important relic of the past. It's pilot is the first successful and stable prototype of the Lynx-type pilots, and it shows. Despite being one to two generations behind technologically, Mavors does not have the polluting effect of the later-developed Kojima Particle technologies. It is also notably faster than it's physical build would hint at; having been made of at-the-time cutting edge technologies in AC development to keep up with the inhuman speed the pilot would theoretically be able to operate at.

Mavors was the testbed Armored Core for the now-subsumed Mirage efforts to produce a successor method to the Human PLUS project of old. As such, it contains the first properly-working Allegorical Manipulation System (AMS) that would become standard issue in fourth-generation Armored Cores. This gives advanced target acquisition speed and near-unparalleled precision with onboard weaponry.

Squadmates for Emmaraldi
(subject to rotation due to casualties!)
Name: Raisa Gatayeva
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 130 lbs.
Eye Color: Dark Brown
Hair Color: White with green tips
Ethnicity: Chechen
Appearance:
SRW Eien Squadronmate 1.jpg
Other Information:
  • Has two cybernetic arms at the shoulders
  • Is a smoker
  • Is a Norma
  • Tri-lingual (English, Chechen, and Russian)
  • Sent to Arzenal as a serial arsonist “Искра” (Iskra)
Biography:

Raisa has always had a fascination with fire. Those who know her quickly come to believe she’s an undiagnosed pyrophiliac, and it led surprisingly well into a life of crime. Raisa has become known in eastern Europe’s underworld as an arsonist-for-hire named “Искра”, and from a surprisingly young age at that. She was caught when she was seventeen as she was leaving the scene of a warehouse fire as part of an insurance scam she was helping with. She’s been with the Para-Mail pilot program for a year and a half, and is regularly chided that the recovery teams want the DRAGONs not burned to cinders when they come to get the bodies; a request she happily ignores.

Mobile Weapon: https://crossange.fandom.com/wiki/AW-ZZR520_(ES)_Howitzer_Ersha_Custom
(Deep red to pink-white flame pattern along the panels of her Mail’s armor)

Affiliation: Arzenal

Combat Style: Firestarter
Strengths: Raisa is usually the one who brings the heat in a fight, literally. Her Hauser’s cannons are equipped with armor-piercing incendiary shells allowing her to set nearly any poor fool she hits alight for ongoing damage.
Weaknesses: She can be distracted by a conflagration of sufficient scale; of her own making or another nearby. Her weaponry choice also suffers if her chosen quarry is resistant to fire.

Name: Klara Aarstad
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 123 lbs.
Eye Color: Blue-green
Hair Color: Blonde
Ethnicity: Norwegian
Appearance:
SRW Eien Squadronmate 2.jpg
Other Information:
  • Is a Norma
  • Is the Squad Leader
  • Sent to Arzenal under dubious-processed charges of running a prostitution ring and being caught because two of her supposed hookers died of a drug overdose during an undercover operation by local authorities
  • Has since actually started a prostitution ring at Arzenal
Biography:

Klara learned when she was a child that the pretty people got all the shiny things. She likes shiny things, and having other people give them to her. A brat from a military reservist family, she picked up plenty of tricks from her parents to keep her safe while she used her looks and brains to grift people out of their valuables. She attracted the wrong attentions one day and after spending most of her late teens trying to get away from her pursuers, she got caught up and framed as the ringleader of a prostitution ring. Having bodies pinned to her, she got sent to Arzenal. She’s been with the Para-Mail pilot program from age 21, and is actually one of the longest-serving pilots; a feat that garners her all sorts of attention among the criminal population.

Mobile Weapon: https://crossange.fandom.com/wiki/AW-FZR304_(HL)_Arquebus_Hilda_Custom
(unaltered paint scheme)

Affiliation: Arzenal

Combat Style: Commanding
Strengths: As the leader of her squad and a veteran Para-Mail pilot, Klara has experience that the others lack, allowing her to take a leadership role in a fight. Her resolute commands tend to put the efforts of those around her to their best use.
Weaknesses: Being involved with tactical and strategic rhythms in a battle, she can get distracted from immediate threats in favor of her attention being on the battle in large-scale engagements.

Name: Carlos Bryant
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 188 lbs.
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Ethnicity: Britannian (Canadian / Two?)
Appearance:
SRW Eien Squadronmate 3.jpg
Other Information:
  • Is a Norma
  • Hates the stereotype that Canadians are always polite, even though he’s guilty of it as well
  • May have a gambling problem, though he denies it loudly
  • Was an Honorary Britannian until his conviction for carjacking a noble’s limousine and going on a three-city high-speed chase with the noble still in the back
Biography:

The only male of the squad, Carlos is one of the people who could be described as a thrill-seeker. His antics started from a young age and culminated in the act that led to his incarceration: effectively kidnapping a noble in their own limousine and taking them on a high-speed carjacked joyride while under hot pursuit from authorities. He was quick to sign up for the Para-Mail pilot program Arzenal runs, and has held his current posting for the better part of a year now.

Mobile Weapon: https://crossange.fandom.com/wiki/AW-FZR304_(SA)_Arquebus_Salia_Custom
(Navy blue paintjob)

Affiliation: Arzenal

Combat Style: Distant
Strengths: Carlos is the team’s designated marksman.
Weaknesses: His skill with melee combat is low-middling at best, and being pressed in close-quarters tends to cause him to scramble for range; taking him out of fights for short periods while he regains his range.

Gideon plot thoughts:

Kojima Scrubbers
- Neutron jammer derivative tech
-Bop the League with PR and/or government backing?
-Scrub vs. Brick tech argument
-Sweepers/Vacuums would also work; maybe more feasible?

Fall smoothly, and become stars.
Flowing, flowing, they are beautiful,
And then once again, in the cradle of life and death,

They froth softly.

Strongly... Strongly shine of the gold of Heaven.
They speak of eternity.

Shine, oh god,
With all of your sadness.
Spinning, and spinning...

Sadness, joy, and even lamentation.
If you see them from the silver river in the sky,
Everything is but a mere moment's dream fireworks.
They disappear without a trace

At the mere blink of the god's eye.

Pray for eternity.
