Faction Name: GDI/Global Defence Initiative

Government: Military Organisation, Leadership answers to Britannia

Capital: 'Dublin' Space Station. Normally stationed over the former US, in Upper Earth Orbit.

Territories: GDI holds authority over Australia and South America, and maintains a military presence in parts of Africa and Italy where Tiberium is confirmed to be present. Their Juridsiction is limited to areas with Tiberium contamination, and once an area is completely secured control is seceded to Britannia proper.

Goals: Containment and eventual destruction of all Tiberium on Earth.

History:
GDI was established in response to the first instances of Tiberium spreading on earth. In their initial role they were just a research agency designed to oversee and investigate the potential of this alien plant under Brtiannian juridsicton. When the danger it posed became clear they were adapted into a containment agency, and when it mutated further into its current crystalline form..

The Global Defence Initiative was born. Taking KMFs as a testbet they began to manufacture their own machinery and weapons to operate in what they designated as 'Red zones' - places where Tiberium was present in great enough quantities. These became the fields where GDI proved its place on the world stage, clearing out mutanted wildlife and anyone else who wished to exploit the alien mineral for their own purposes. Their belief that nobody else should claim the power of Tiberium was vindicated in the Australian Cataclysm, after a Liquid Tiberium explosive deployed against the former 'Cabal' rendered the continent unlivable and nearly created a dangerous strain of 'Tiberium Algae' that could have choked the world's oceans.

Almost all of GDI's military power comes from Tiberium, their exploitation of the mineral providing them with the means to safely clear it and turn former Red Zones into areas that can be lived in by humanity once more. This unique method of territory expansion - and their prompt evacuation once their work is 'done', are the only reason Britannia tolerates their deviations from conventional doctrine and highly independent nature.

Recently they have expanded beyond Britannia's territories, attempting to reclaim Australia for Britannia in addition to their containment efforts in North Africa and consistent work reclaiming the Red Zones still remaining South America.

Look and feel:

Almost all GDI uniforms contain some method of measuring or protecting against Tiberium radiation, with their standard battle dress being a full-body containment suit. Even their 'non-combat' equipment will always bear some kind of respirator within reach due to the incredible danger of Tiberium exposure, and their universal deployment in areas heavy with Tiberium.

All GDI structures are by their very nature prefabricated or otherwise designed to be easily torn down. They rely on function over form to an extreme, with every structure designed to withstand the worst excesses of the world's weather - from conventional hurricanes to the horrific ferocity of an Ion Storm.

Some aspects of a GDI forward command post are deisgned to pack up and move on their own, allowing them to constantly move the frontline forward as areas are cleared for use. Often the only sign that a base once existed is a concrete foundation, or the bright yellow watchtowers they construct as part of a more long-term base.

Service in GDI is one of the ways to become an Honorary Britannian, however their upper layers and officer corps are entirely made up of pure-blooded Britannians. The only aspect of GDI not touched by the class system is their research divison, which is kept separate from the main military frontier and thus technically inelegible for raising one's status. However those who prove useful within it are given priveliges above their station to minimise the risk of secrets being leaked to Britannia's enemies.

Notable Individuals:

Name: Maximus Ironside
Age: 65
Role: GDI Commander-In-Chief
Bio:
Maximus Ironside has been with the GDI for most of his life, joining as an officer at age 20 and working his way through the ranks. He has served with distinction in Africa, South America - to the point of being credited for enabling Mexico to be safely classified as a "Blue Zone" free of Tiberium - and in Australia, having gained Britannia proper's attention during one of the few instances of the Empire fighting directly alongside GDI battle walkers. While the campaign was a Pyhrric victory, his conduct stood out as exceptional.

Is a somewhat fresh appointment, his predecessor being stripped of his post due to the unfortunate death of their Britannian Overseer in Australia. The disastrous detonation of a Liquid Tiberium Bomb rendered the continent mostly uninhabitable to humans, but responsibility for the detonation depends on who you ask. Britannia officially blames the former Cabal for assembling it, claiming the detonation was a 'Tragic accident' caused by GDI's former Commander-In-Chief firing the Dublin's Ion Cannon at their HQ. Unofficially they blame GDI for deploying the weapon, and for the death of their former Overseer.

General Ironside blames Britannia for forcing the deployment despite protests to its capabilities. He does not believe Tiberium has a place on Earth, and also grates against Britannia's control over GDI.

[No Art yet]
Name: Adrian Pascal
Age: 28
Role: Britannian Overseer
Bio:
A replacement for the previous GDI overseer, Adrian holds authority over General Ironside and thus all of GDI, but has little military experience to match. Originally an administrator under the previous overseer, Adrian was promoted to the role after the unfortunate death of his predecessor. He distinguished himself by being the only one on record to have objected to the deployment of a Liquid Tiberium bomb in Australia, and for organizing the evacuation effort that saved many of his Britannian comrades when the fallout from the bomb threatened their vantage point.

Since then he has maintained a point of staying far away from the front lines, which has caused some difficulties and allowed Britannia's leash over GDI to slip a little. He has maintained some rapport with Gen. Ironside despite this, with both agreeing that the dangers posed by Tiberium currently far outstrip its usefulness.

Mass Production Machines:

All GDI Equipment is specifically treated to ensure it can survive in Tiberium contaminated areas, and the unique terrain difficulties within such locations have forced them to develop their own weapons and technology for patrolling the wastelands. These so-called "Battle Walkers" are the core of their patrols in Tiberium-contaminated Red Zones, although in extreme situations they have been known to call on Britannia for KMF support or other heavier weapons.

"Wolverine" Powered Assault Armour

Height: 9 feet

Weapons: Two Anti-Personnel Autoguns
Wolverine_KW.png
The Wolverine is the smallest of GDI's battle walkers, only slightly larger than a human and essentially a self-powered containment suit. It is only rated for elimination of biological threats and mutants in Tiberium containment zones, and rarely seen in serious combat outside of urban areas.

"Titan" MBMW (Medium Battle Mechanized Walker)

CNCTS_Titan_Concept_Art.png

Height: 25 feet

Weapon: 120mm Cannon (Laser Guided)

Titans are GDI's main battle walker, their single 120mm cannon allowing them to pose a threat to other machines and fortifications no matter the terrain. Variations on the Titan have been with GDI since its creation, with newer models sometimes being fitted with Railguns or Laser beams depending on the situation.

A 'Civlian' variant of the Titan exists as well, with Titans in non-combat areas having their weapons removed and being fitted with construction equipment instead for use in rebuilding the now purified territory.

Juggernaut artillery Walker
CNCTW_Juggernaut_HQ_Render.png
Height: 25 feet

Weapon: 200mm Cannon * 3

Juggernauts are GDI's primary artillery platform, rarely seen on the battlefield alone. They are primarily reserved for bombardment or sutained barrages on locations held by their foe, but in a close combat scenario the cannons can be recalibrated to fire directly at nearby machines.

Other Information:

Ion cannon: Originally theorized as part of a large network of weaponed satellites, the program was canceled due to fears of what could happen if the Satellites were subverted. The only completed prototype was installed on the Dublin, and remains their trump card in pitched battles. Its use requires the Dublin to be maneuvered over the battlefield in advance however, a process which can take hours depending on its prior orbit. Once it is in position the weapon can be fired at a specific beacon or rough set of coordinates, obliterating the target with a particle beam. It can also be used as a Anti-Satellite weapon on a lower power setting, destroying missiles or other craft attacking the Dublin directly.

The Tacitus:

A crystalline object roughly the size of a human head, little is currently known of the Tacitus beyond its status as an alien artifact and its discovery in eastern europe in a tiberium-infested ruin. While the artifact was soon siezed by Britannia proper, GDI scientists have maintained a constant effort to discover its secrets and obtain the knowledge believed to be stored within. So far all that has been retrieved is a series of alien communications that are proving difficult to translate, but hint at something else being stored within.
