MONITOR 105 AWAKENED FROM STASIS

Welcome back, Monitor.

ScrinCommand.jpg

...Premature Ichor-LQ detonation recorded on populated planet - BETA detected during surface scans. Reaper support has been obtained according to your instructions.

...Tactical analysis indicates indigenous species highly unstable. Self-destruction in long term can be assumed - BETA infestation guarantees loss of home planet and orbital installations are locked in active conflict. Advise against direct intervention in indigenous conflicts.

...Early scans indicate approximate location of [Scrin] Containment device. Unit Pilgrim deployed via wormhole for recon purposes.

...All five dropships launched and descending as planned. Orbital defences presumed occupied with indigenous conflict.

Upper Earth Orbit - December 12th, 11:15 CST

Five of what appeared to be Asteroids had appeared out of nowhere, streating towards earth at terminal velocity. None of them were large enough to threaten anything beyond their initial impact zones, but their sudden appearance and seeming direction implied worse was to come. Mineral scans or even simple Radioscopes would reveal all five as being packed to the brim with Tiberium, each individual rock emnating enough to make them impossible to hide.

The quantity of tiberium within far eclipsed that of the original ground zero impact, but each of these was significantly smaller than the original strike that seeded the planet. What's more, one was aimed directly towards the original impact crater. Whatever their origin, these had been launched with purpose.

Asteroids Remaining: 5

Known Targets: N.America, S.America, Australia, Central Africa, Italy (Ground Zero)

Time to impact: approx. Three Hours

Additional Forces: Unknown

Stonehenge Base, Area 2, Britannia

"Two Asteroids in response range before impact." Voices called back and forth across a facility, numbers being checked. "If we calibrate now we could take both out." Men in lab coats showing data to soldiers as the commander of the base contemplated action.
"Area six and Brazil correct?" An aged man replied, from his vantage point he could see half the battery array at his command. His imperial highness himself had assigned him this position and as such none other than the Emperor himself could overrule his choice of where and when to fire. A deadly choice when a fool was put in charge but he, he was no fool.

No, the man put in charge of this facility returned to function for atmospheric defense was none other than Anselm Strudwick. The medals that adorned the aged man's chest sparsely told enough, the title he had earned "Bastion of the Empire" said more, though the Japanese back before they were the Elevens preferred to address him as "Invader King". Though that title had all but been retired after the acquisition of Area 11.

"Correct sir, the first target will burn up in the atmosphere but the second will not, instead scattering in much the same way Ulysses is indicated to have been fragmented." Anselm looked outside.

"Lock onto target one, do not let Tiberium taint Britannian soil." He ordered, several communications officers immediately began relaying it. "As for target two, let it impact Brazil. Inform Area 12 of the oncoming geological event there." The southern continent was already a hell on earth, an impact more or less wouldn't change that nor would the place become salvageable from the destruction of target two. As such no reason to waste valuable ammo and cause the Tiberium to spread further than projected. The GDI had their hands full as it is already containing those rocks and he personally didn't hate Ironside so there was no reason to make the man's life hell either.

General Strudwick watched as the guns in his sight slowly but surely rotated, in seconds that felt like ages. Knowing that above him there was a space rock descending at rapid pace. In these moments there was the contemplation about who or what had sent these asteroids, appearing out of nowhere on no projection charts to have ever existed. Those ancient people who commanded this facility against Ulysses must have felt similar, their adversary appeared not out of thin air but gave them time to contemplate their mortality even as it brought Tiberium with it.

"Spaceguard Turret Network aligned to target one." A voice called out besides him, leading him to rise out of his chair. "Turrets one through eight armed and ready. Awaiting command to fire." He looked outside, to see the guns stand straight like this had only been a thing in routine checks yet here it was, the reason for such checks. A short notice need for these guns.

"FIRE!" His voice rung through the facility itself almost. And there it was, the sound of the massive battery aligning and firing. Sending eight rounds upwards in unison. Massive shells were immediately extracted and new ones loaded in, this melody of destruction would continue until the asteroid was no more. And there, outside his window he saw it.

They were like fingers to rend the heavens, stars trailing upwards in pursuit of one coming down. Even the gods of eld who threw thunder and lightning would need to cower from these weapons.

...Planetary Orbital defences detected. Initiating defensive dispersal.

Seconds before Stonehenge's first shot could hit the entire Asteroid cracked, splitting up into dozens of smaller craft and discarding the outer layer of rock. Normally such a measure would be enough to minimize the damage from an orbital weapon, or even evade it outright - but not this one. Shell after shell slammed into the drone ships, the initial barrage wiping out more than half.

Each individual drone ship picked its own target on the continent at random, dispersing in a similar fashion to a school of fish in the hope of confusing hostile targeting and minimizing losses. There were no attempts to break off the attack, the landing craft only ever adjusting their descent to try to take as much advantage of the space taken up by ships since destroyed. A one-way trip, in the hope one craft might make it through and ensure a safer method of moving planetside.

Not one ship made it through that wall of fire. Their shattered fragments were swiftly burning up in the atmosphere, and while some shards of the Tiberium-based alloy would make it to the surface, none of the organisms stored within still lived.

...Defensive Dispersal failed. Fleet one lost.

...Monitor 105 connection accepted.

Upgrade the threat level of the local population. Again. What sort of energy signature was recorded from that attack?

...Zero Ichor radiation detected. Projectile deployment seems to be directed at ensuring zero ichor seeding across target continent.

...All projectiles originated from single point. Identifying... Marked. Estimating threat range based on surviving transports...

Wonderful. Issue orders for all orbital units to avoid that area of space. Why didn't they use that on the other large object aimed at their planet?

...Request sent. Receiving report from 'Pilgrim' on indigenous species.. skipping archive and deleting as per your past instructions.

Overridden. This one might have something of value.

...I am required to warn you that these reports have been recorded as inflicting mental harm on prior Foremen.

It can't be any worse than what I just witnessed. Perhaps that ichor-addled mind will provide insights into the types resistance we'll face planetside.

A visual feed was being shown at a strategic meeting, older men and women mixed with younger ones all having their eyes upon the visual. Each however displayed a gaze mixed with disgust, contempt and disbelief.
"They're like locusts.." a middle aged man responded at long last. "This was the asteroid that was approaching Area six?" A rhetorical question, more in awe of it than questioning its existence.

A woman, somewhat younger, followed it up with her own question.
"They don't look like BETA, are these Invaders?" If they had returned that only meant bad things, they had enough on their hands already.

"We don't know currently but our current expectation is something entirely new instead of Invaders, the GDI will be collecting any pieces that don't burn up in orbit for investigation." General Strudwick responded first

"For this reason we are postponing territory reclamation missions for the coming period," a new voice followed after, one not often heard during tactical meetings or information distribution despite of rank "Our forces are already in position to act on these creatures' movements but we simply have neither the resources nor manpower to also defend ourselves properly should they be anything like the other extraterrestrial beasts."

It was a rare occasion for Commander-in-chief Ironside to garner this much attention from Britannia. Usually him and his people were more or less considered Tiberium cleaners, a vital role it was for the ever expanding Britannia but not one of much interest. Akin to how one only notices a janitor when a floor was dirty or being cleaned then and there.

"For good measure conduct a test for Tiberium in the expected landing zone in Area six, if I'm sitting on any I'd rather have it be gone." the middle aged man responded.

"Proper procedure will be followed."

Each of the four remaining rocks ignited as they passed the atmosphere, burning away the outer rock to reveal not the expected green crystals but polished metal and some sort of shield, keeping the burning heat from so much as touching the precious cargo within. As they crossed the atmosphere three of them split, scattering in a similar way to their now-obliterated comrade. But this separation had a very different goal.

This split was done to ensure complete coverage of the red zones, marking their entire territory in one 'meteor' shower.

Offensive Dispersal activated for all Traveler Nodes. Reaper Hub #2 dropping as intended.

Additional Dispatch request received. Alternative sites on continent #3 being analyzed for [BETA] containment?

Overidden. Theorise sub-orbital deployments to disable that weapon first.

Confirmed - Continuing to Extrapolate Range from marked side. Error. Calculations likely incorrect, cannot guarantee accuracy - if these numbers were correct, we would have lost the Fleet on Continent #4 as well.

Calculate survival chance if the attack was split.

Estimation of 11% unit survival rate across both nodes with proper dispersal.

Noted. Recalibrate territory projections of indigenous population. Do not test that weapon's range without express authorisation. Inform Overlord of delays in re-containment.

TWo Hours Later
Various Locations Worldwide in Australia, S.America, and Central Africa

Every craft that 'landed' was a pylon nailed deep into the tiberium-infused earth, unfolding to form a lattice of towers marking a grid over the tiberium-infested red zones. Some of these held construction equipment, smaller creatures swaming out like ants to reassemble refineries and harvesting stations for the Ichor that held their technology together. Others held larger monster and what could only be described as their own mobile weapons?

Not that they were content to remain within those red zones. Smaller aliens were already probing the edges of tiberium-infested terrain, making forays out into the grand wildnerness of the unknown planet.

And opening fire on any who crossed their path.
